As a child of the Appalachian Mountains, Lee cherished the quiet solitude. She was privy to front-porch stories her parents told about moonshine stills, coal mining, one-room schools, pie suppers and the hardships and joys of their youth. Walking over a mountainous road to school, she painted stories inside her head of covered wagons and pioneers who settled the land. As an adult, she wanted to write stories to capture that mountain life. Whether mainstream, young adult or romance, her novels encompass rural settings–old houses, woodlands, streams, and country roads–populated with down-to-earth characters. Her favorite themes are those of abiding love, strength in adversity, and family bonds.
